What Makes a Better Sauce?

Flip over most supermarket sauces and you'll find sugar or glucose syrup near the top of the ingredient list. Every sauce in this collection starts from a simpler place: real tomatoes, fresh pineapple and chilli, lemongrass and galangal, mustard and honey.

The difference shows up on the label. Compared with the supermarket alternatives we checked, the Tomato Ketchup has 67% less sugar, the Barbecue Sauce 72% less, the Sweet Chilli 66% less and the Thai Green Curry Paste 84% less. The Honey & Pepperberry Mustard has 28% less sodium.

Some of our makers go a step further. Church Farm chargrills fresh ingredients over coals for its Barbecue and Sweet Chilli sauces, building a depth of flavour you won't get from added smoke flavour.

Real ingredients. Small batches. Sauces you'll want on the table every night.

It has to be Australian made and owned, made with real ingredients you'd recognise, and ideally gluten free. If the ingredient list reads like a recipe rather than a chemistry experiment, it belongs here.
