What Makes a Real Food Pantry Staple?

Most of us grew up with pantry staples that seemed harmless — a bottle of tomato sauce here, a jar of curry paste there. But flip them over and the ingredient list tells a different story: glucose syrup, modified starch, artificial colours, preservatives with numbers instead of names. These aren't ingredients. They're fillers, stabilisers, and cost-cutting measures dressed up as food.

The Real Food Pantry exists for people who've started asking better questions. What's actually in this? Where was it made? Could I have made this at home? If the answer to that last one is yes — if the ingredient list reads like a recipe rather than a chemistry experiment — it belongs here.

Australian Made, Small Batch, Clean Label

Every product in this collection is made in Australia by independent producers committed to short ingredient lists and honest food. Small batch production means fresher ingredients, more care in the process, and a product that hasn't been sitting in a warehouse for eighteen months. Clean label means nothing hidden — no artificial flavours, no preservatives, no refined seed oils, no additives you need a science degree to understand.

Gluten Free Pantry Staples You Can Actually Trust

Finding gluten free condiments and pantry goods that don't compromise on flavour — or swap gluten for a list of other questionable ingredients — is harder than it should be. The products here are gluten free by nature, not by reformulation. Made from whole food ingredients that simply don't contain gluten, rather than processed alternatives engineered to mimic the real thing.

Whether you're cooking for a coeliac household, managing a gluten sensitivity, or simply choosing to eat less of it, you'll find pantry staples here that work for your kitchen without making you feel like you're missing out.

FAQs

Yes. Every product in the Real Food Pantry is gluten free. Where soy sauce is used in a recipe (such as the BBQ Sauce), it is replaced with gluten-free tamari.

The products are made with gluten free ingredients, however they are produced in small batch kitchens that may also handle other ingredients. If you have coeliac disease, we recommend checking with the individual producer about their cross-contamination practices before purchasing.

Significantly less — and what sugar is present comes from whole food sources, not refined white sugar or glucose syrup. Our Tomato Ketchup contains 8.2g of sugar per 100g versus around 23g in a standard supermarket ketchup. Our BBQ Sauce contains 7.9g per 100g versus 27–30g in most commercial alternatives. Our Sweet Chilli Sauce contains 18.4g per 100g versus 35–38g in typical supermarket versions. The sweetness comes from dates, coconut sugar, fresh pineapple, and blackstrap molasses — ingredients that carry fibre and trace minerals alongside their natural sweetness.

Some are. The Church Farm Thai Green Curry Paste is both keto and paleo friendly — made entirely from whole food ingredients with no added sugar. The sauces contain small amounts of natural sweeteners such as coconut sugar, dates, and fresh fruit, so they are better suited to a paleo approach than strict keto. Check the individual product pages for full nutrition information.

All products in the Real Food Pantry are made in Australia by independent, Australian-owned producers. The Church Farm and TruSelf Collective range is handcrafted in Northern NSW, Women's Work are also proudly Australian made and owned. With all ingredients sourced as locally as possible.
